World's Smallest Cow Gives Birth To A Healthy Little Calf

A particularly petite little cow in Ireland, believed to be the smallest in the world, gave birth last week to a healthy baby calf. Doting farmer Henry Judge says the new mother Ella, a Dexter cow measuring just 31-inches tall, is two inches shorter than the recognized record holder -- a fact that can make feeding her not-too-much-smaller offspring a little tricky at times.

Dexter cattle, a diminutive Irish breed that dates back to the late 1700s, have long been a favorite among dairy farmers. Despite their compact size, can produce nearly 10 litres of milk per day which they are known to happily offer even to hungry calves that are not their own.
