Woman With Cancer Refuses Treatment And Travels Around The Country With Her Dog

She wanted to spend her last year with her best friend.

Two days after her husband died, Norma Bauerschmidt was diagnosed with cancer.

Already in her 90s, Bauerschmidt had no interest in invasive, time-consuming treatments. Instead, she decided she wanted to spend her remaining time on Earth traveling across the country with her son, daughter-in-law, and of course, Ringo the dog.

The doctors were shocked but didn't object, and so the foursome packed themselves into an RV and drove off on what would become a year-long journey.

Ringo and Bauerschmidt saw a great deal during their year exploring the world. They saw new sights ...

... made new friends ...

... both big and small ...

... and tried SO many new things.

They even got a little silly along the way, proving that you're never too old to have fun.

Ringo celebrated his 9th birthday while on the road, and spent the day picking (and mostly eating) blackberries with his best friend.

Throughout the year, Bauerschmidt and Ringo grew closer and closer, and rarely spent a moment apart. Their time together was always limited, but neither seemed to mind. They enjoyed every day they had together to the fullest, and that's what counts.

Finally, Bauerschmidt became too sick to continue traveling, and so the group settled down in Friday Harbor, Washington, in August. They continued to explore and adventure when they could, but mostly just spent time enjoying each other's company.

On September 30th, Bauerschmidt passed away with Ringo by her side, after a wonderful year together.
