Wife Of Canadian Prime Minister To Host First Annual Cat Video Film Festival

Cat videos are getting political in Canada. Laureen Harper, wife of Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper, is set to co-host Just For Cats: Internet Cat Video Film Festival, the first-ever celebration of -- you guessed it -- online cat videos -- happening next month. The event will feature a "red carpet adopt-a-thon" before the screening, sponsored by the Toronto Humane Society. It has not yet been announced whether or not the prime minister will be in attendance.

This is not the first time Harper, a well-known pet-lover and animal welfare volunteer, has worked with the Humane Society, and it shouldn't come as any surprise that she's such a fan of cat videos in particular. She and her husband have fostered over 160 felines, in addition to caring for their three adopted rescue cats, since taking up residence in Ottawa. In 2011, Harper was honored with the Humane Society of Canada's Heroes for Animals Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her commitment to animal welfare.
