On Thursday, July 3rd, The Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) worked in conjunction with Page County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control to rescue 132 dogs and four parrots living in horribly neglected conditions at a puppy mill in Page County, VA.
The rescue was dubbed Operation Liberty Dogs, as the animals were being freed from their squalid living situation just in time for Independence Day. All of the animals were transported the ARC's emergency shelter, where they will receive their vet exam, vaccinations, and any other treatment needed. The animals will then be placed into rescue facilities in order to be adopted into loving forever-homes.
Several of the animals were close to death when the team came in, but were stabilized thanks to emergency veterinary care. Though the rescue crew worked long hours in the heat, ARC President Scotlund Haisley says "We've got nothing to complain about -- these dogs have been living in this hell their entire existence."
All of the animals were handled with the utmost care, and given the best treatment possible. Says Haisley, "We're in the life-saving business."
