Tiny Disabled Piglet Saved From Slaughter Gets A New Set Of Wheels

Just a few weeks ago, things looked bleak for this tiny, three-week-old piglet named Leon Trotsky. Shortly after being born on a meat farm in Australia, his injured mother fell on top of him, crushing his hip and back legs.

Being left unable walk after the accident would likely have meant that his already ill-fated life at the slaughterhouse would be cut short, but fortunately a compassionate person took sympathy on the pig and stepped in to intervene.

Leon was then taken to Edgar's Mission, a farm animal sanctuary where resident veterinarian Pam Ahern devised a way for little Leon to regain his mobility -- creating a new set of wheel to put him back on his feet.

"There's no stopping him now! At just over three weeks of age, little Leon Trotsky has more spunk than most who are ten times his size and he has already beaten the odds not once but twice," writes the sanctuary. "...Things could not have looked much grimmer for the wee chap. But no one told the plucky little Leon that these obstacles of his world should hold him back."

Leon is just starting his road to recovery, but the sanctuary is hopeful that the piglet will one day be able to live a normal life on his own four legs.

"If we can put a man on the moon we can surely save a pig with a broken leg," says Pam.
