Yes, The New York Times Knows There's A Cat In This Picture
When New York Times columnist Paul Krugman's latest blog post went up Monday night, readers noticed an unexpected animal cameo in the White House Situation Room.
Did you spot him yet?
Yep, that's a cat.
Commentators quickly chimed in, riffing on the seemingly unintentional inclusion of a feline interloper in an iconic photo by America's newspaper of record.
On Tuesday, however, Krugman acknowledged the president's (previously unknown) fluffy white security adviser with an update to the post.
"Yes, I know there's a cat in the picture," wrote Krugman. "I've used that image before, to lighten things up slightly. Apparently I didn't succeed."
The image, it seems, came from a 2011 satire piece about America's secret "cats of war."
But Krugman's attempt at humor wasn't a complete failure - he still made people laugh, just maybe not for the reasons he hoped.
