I wanted to share this with my thoughts because I realized that I love seeing animals do this.
My reason is because not only does it mean these elephants are consciously aware of the fact that they have a baby, whom they love, but it means that they also have compassion, fear of loss, and basically any emotion we experience.
On the outside we all look so different to each other, but I've been thinking that on the inside we are all the same, our emotions and our basic instincts. The things that set us apart are our hopes and dreams. That is one thing that cannot be answered; do elephants dream the way we do? Or any other animal for that matter?
At the end of the day, seeing a mother fight for the safety of her child like this -- like we see in many videos shared around the connective system that is the Internet -- is beautiful. It means they are not basic, they are not here for one purpose only, they are here to experience life too, to have a child to love, a partner to rest one's head against, a family to create and exist with.
We should allow them this freedom as we allow ourselves.
