Most excuses for why certain things that were supposed to get done didn't get done could be classified as either "lame," "dubious," "credible," or "convincing." But every once in a while, an excuse comes along that's so unquestionably legit, no person in their right mind could ever claim otherwise.
A Vancouver, British Columbia resident reportedly found a curious letter in his mailbox, one which hinted that his home had been the scene of an interesting wildlife encounter some time earlier. It was a note from a Canada Post postal worker informing him that his package could not be dropped off.
The reason? "Bear at Door."
Intended package recipient, Matthew Fane, tweeted out a photo of the notice, and soon heard back from Canada Post on Twitter. Apparently, he wasn't upset at all that a bear had thwarted the delivery.
Fane later told Huffington Post Canada that bears are a common sight in his neighborhood, and that he is in solidarity with the postal worker.
The following day, to dispel any doubts about the story, Fane tweeted out what he says is photographic evidence that a bear had indeed been out and about in the neighborhood.
According to wildlife officials, the mail carrier did the right thing by staying away.
"Never approach a bear," advises British Columbia's Environment Ministry. "Bears are everywhere. We see them on the side of the highway, on logging roads, on the way to a campsite, near towns, or in the bush when hiking or working. Bears will usually hide from people, but remember: just because you don't see a bear, it doesn't mean they aren't around."
Canada Post could not be reached immediately by The Dodo to verify the authenticity of the image.
