"Tara The Hero Cat Day," Now An Officially Recognized Holiday In Kern County

Tara, the cat who stood up to defend her young, little human from a vicious dog attack, has been raking in the accolades since her story went viral last month. Video of the fast-acting feline has already garnered more than 20 million views online, leading to countless notes of praise, thousands of followers on Facebook, and even an invitation to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game.

Now Tara's hometown in California has created a holiday in her honor.

In a ceremony yesterday, the Kern County Board of Supervisors officially proclaimed June 3 "Tara the Hero Cat Day," presenting the courageous kitty with a certificate and some toys.

"To have this recognition is unreal. We're proud to be a part of this community. Kern County is our home, and we love it," said the hero cat's owner, Roger Triantafilo.
