The results of an online poll that at first said readers wholeheartedly supported SeaWorld have been flipped on their head -- and now show just the opposite. The poll, which asked, "Has CNN's ‘Blackfish' documentary changed your perception of SeaWorld?" was posted on the Orlando Business Journal's website on Dec. 31.
At first, the results were 99 percent "No," surprising reporter, Richard Bilbao. Bilbao looked into the results, and found that the IP address of many of the voters belonged, in fact, to SeaWorld. Later, SeaWorld released a statement saying that they had encouraged employees to vote in the poll -- explaining that the company urges its employees to speak their mind about issues that they are passionate about.
But now, the tables have turned, Bilbao reports:
As of 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 3, the poll had 1,513 votes and shows the Blackfish documentary has had a perception impact on the theme park giant. Currently, 69 percent of people say the documentary has indeed affected their opinion, and the comments included are from many animal rights advocates. However, the poll has also attracted supporters of the park to come out in defense of SeaWorld.
Voting remains open for the poll on Orlando Business Journal's' website.
