Earlier this month, a sweet shar-pei mix named Kai was found abandoned at a railway station in Scotland. Tethered to a railing next to a suitcase containing a bowl, toy and other belongings, he had no way of knowing that his human would not be returning for him.
Despite being abandoned by his former owner, Kai is far from unwanted.
The dog was eventually taken in by rescuers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who discovered that he was microchipped. The microchip led them to a former owner who had reportedly sold Kai over the internet in 2013 - unfortunately that person had no contact information for the latest owner.
But Kai's sad story soon spread far and wide on social media, generating an outpouring of support that promises he shall never be left alone again.
"We have been overwhelmed with lovely messages for Kai and would like to thank everyone," the Scottish SPCA wrote on Facebook. "The phone at our Glasgow centre has also been ringing off the hook with offers of a new home for this adorable boy, who must be the most filmed and photographed dog in Scotland, and has taken being in the media spotlight in his stride."
