Rescuers Won't Leave Stranded Whale Alone Until He Makes It Back Home

A lot of people are working hard to make sure that this stranded whale gets back to where he belongs - alive, healthy and well.

The long-finned pilot whale was found stranded on a beach shore in south China's Hainan province. The whale was first discovered on Monday by a security guard who was patrolling the beach, according to the South China Morning Post.

Local residents came together to keep watch over the whale overnight. The next day, rescuers dug a trench to surround the whale, in order to help him stay underwater. They also put up a tarp to give him shade from the sunlight.

Marine wildlife experts who arrived at the scene Tuesday examined the whale, according to People's Daily China.

The whale reportedly has no external injuries and efforts are underway to transport him to a nearby island for further treatment before he is released back into the sea. However, these efforts have been delayed by tides.

Here are some great tips on how to best assist a stranded whale or dolphin if you ever come across one.
