I shot this picture last Saturday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park located in downtown Portland, Oregon. It was a lovely day and, since it always rains in Portland, you could tell Portlanders had been waiting with bated breath for a dry day because the waterfront was just packed with people.
As I was shooting around I saw the dog and his master approaching the park. Normally I just ignore them because I already photographed the dog three years ago. But then I saw the sign and basket he was carrying in his mouth. So, I gave chase. As I was catching up I could hear all of the people laughing and commenting on how cute the dog was, especially when they saw the "smile" sign.
Everyone stopped to take pictures with their cell phones and cameras as the two passed by. I walked as fast as I could so that I could get way ahead of them. When I felt I had gained enough distance I turned around and waited for them. I crouched low to the ground and then began shooting several pictures of the dog as they approached me. This picture was the best out of the series.
