This gorgeous goldcrest was admitted to the hospital, yesterday, after being found on the pavement, near buildings. We have no idea what might have happened to him; he could have been hit by a car, flown into a window or been caught by a cat... He was very wobbly and weak, but he had no visible injuries. We gave him some rehydration fluid and put him in a quiet room to recover.
Sadly, he passed away this morning. We tried everything we could to help him, but we were too late. The postmortem showed a large hematoma on the skull, which tells us that he must have hit his head very badly and the trauma must have been the cause of death.
Rest in peace, beautiful bird.
