A team of rescuers are rallying to save a humpback whale tangled up in a crab pot in Monterey Bay, Calif. The whale was spotted by a whale-watching group that noticed buoys following a whale wherever it went. Luckily, a rescue team was on hand to remove the netting and lines, which were wrapped three times around the whale's body.
"The drag was probably two- or 300 pounds worth of gear underneath the water," Peggy Stap of Marine Life Studies told local KSBW News.
Happily, the team has removed about 90 percent of the netting, and hope that the rest will come off naturally, or they will be able to remove the rest of the netting.
