"He was totally lying flat on the sand with netting cut deep into the back of his neck," a rescuer with the Scottish SPCA said in a video. "He was unable to have the energy to move back into the water ... it was cut into him, slowly suffocating him."
"If Wolverine hadn't been rescued by BDMLR near Aberdeen he would have died a very slow lingering death," a representative from the rescue center told The Dodo.
The rescuers named the little seal Wolverine, and brought him back to the rehab center to recover. A video from the center shows Wolverine happily splashing around in a little pool. As soon as his neck heals completely, he'll be released back into the wild.
