A few months ago, things looked bleak for a tiny stray kitten named Celica, left to fend for herself in a world she could not see. Rescue came last February when the cat, blind from birth, was discovered cowering underneath a car in Redwood City, California.
But she soon found a friend.
The same day Celica was brought to the nearby Nine Lives Cat Shelter, so too was another kitten, a dark-haired rescue named Jett. Staff at the shelter say that, while he was timid around the other cats, that all changed when he was put in a living space with the other new arrival with special needs.
"The little male immediately approached the blind kitten and snuggled against her," writes shelter volunteer Joe Fama. "In the days that followed, the two became inseparable as Jett became not only Celica's companion but her ‘eyes' as well."
Over the next few weeks, the bond shared between the two rescued kittens only grew closer, with Jett stepping in as Celica's guide. Thankfully, they soon found two human friends to share as well.
