Pit bulls are often thought of as an inherently aggressive, dangerous breed -- but one young dog in Colorado is proving that tenderness and compassion might actually be among their strongest instincts.
Meet Dominic, an 18-week-old pit bull, a Recovery Specialist.
According to the Greeley Tribune, Dominic was rescued as a puppy following a house raid in Denver, Colorado, where owning the dogs have been banned. He was eventually transferred to nearby Denkai Animal Sanctuary, a veterinary clinic that houses and cares for needy pets, and was soon adopted by resident vet tech Stephany Haswell.
One day, Haswell decided to bring Dominic to work with her -- that's when she discovered her new pet had a special skill. After a dog was set to rest following an operation at the clinic, Haswell noticed that Dominic had laid down beside it, sensing their discomfort. Later, as more animals came out of surgery, he cuddled with them the same.
Afterwards, the recovering animals appeared to be more relaxed and happy.
