For the second time since April, Miami police have uncovered an illegal cockfighting ring on residential property and taken the organizers into custody. In response to an anonymous tip, officers investigated the home of Julio Valdez and Lazara Lopez, only to discover several live roosters wandering the couple's yard along with several other dead roosters. The deceased birds are suspected to have been fatally wounded in combat with one another.

In addition to the roosters, police found a massive marijuana growing facility hidden from view beneath a doghouse in Valdez and Lopez's backyard. Approximately 50 pounds of marijuana were taken from inside a shoddily wired underground space. While it has not yet been confirmed whether the drug and cockfighting rings are related, cockfighting has a long history of funding by drug cartels.
