The whales rode out the storm in a sea pen, originally categorized as a typhoon. It was the second to hit the area in just over a week. Vongfong was seen from the International Space Station:
The bad weather does have one other other consequence - it prevents hunters from setting out to capture more dolphins or whales, either to slaughter for their meat or for captivity. Fishermen have brought back several pods this year, taking three individuals for captivity and killing dozens so far.
