Earlier this week, police responded to calls reporting that a plump little pig had been spotted wandering through a neighborhood in Santa Monica. When authorities arrived to investigate, the swift swine proceeded to lead them on a foot chase.
Officers were eventually able to corner the pig who, after what appears to be a tense standoff, was convinced to peacefully surrender. The Santa Monica Police Department says the animal was "taken into custody without incident" and transported to a nearby animal shelter.
"This doesn't happen every day in Santa Monica," the department assures.
Fortunately, the unusual story has a happy ending. The S.M.P.D. reports that the runaway pig is actually a beloved pet named Sophie, and has since been reunited with her owner.
