Several months ago, a Great White pelican arrived on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Tanzania’s Mahale National Park, after being swept away from his flock in a massive storm. Because pelicans feed only in groups, the bird was unable to hunt for himself and was taken in by the park’s staff, who have since nicknamed him “Big Bird.” At first, Big Bird -- who was just three months old when he arrived at the park -- was hesitant to fly, only flapping his wings with encouragement from humans. But now, as this video shows, Big Bird is a pro flyer.
