Patient Pit Bull Has Been Waiting 452 Days To Find A Home
Staff at the Humane Society of Tinton Falls can't understand why Baby Girl hasn't found a home yet - she's a sweet, "mellow" pit bull with an adorable smile, and she's been at the shelter for 452 days and counting, the longest of any dog there.
Baby Girl arrived last summer, after her owners were evicted from their home and couldn't keep caring for her. Now, the 8-year-old pittie mix has all but given up on having a family again. Shelter staff told The Dodo that she thinks the New Jersey shelter is her home now.
"She sees the staff and volunteers as her owners, so when people see her she isn't all over them, she's kind of aloof," one of Baby Girl's caretakers at the shelter told The Dodo. "She thinks she's outside to do her business, because that's her routine for so long. She's essentially sort of become institutionalized. It's sad."
Week after week goes by without any potential adopters coming by to meet Baby Girl. Despite everything she's got going for her, no one seems interested in taking her home.
"She's 8 but still very energetic. Loves fetch," shelter staff said. "She likes most dogs, no puppy nonsense."
Baby Girl's fans at the shelter set up a special Facebook page to help her get adopted. It's clear that Baby Girl is so ready to be someone's pet - she just wants to cuddle and play and be surrounded by people who love her. And, like all dogs, she deserves that.
