Orca Launches Seal High Into The Sky
As one of the world's most intelligent and capable aquatic predators, killer whales don't mess around when it comes to making sure they stay ahead of their next meal.
Whale watchers off the coast of Vancouver, Canada, recently had the chance to witness this animal's remarkable hunting skills in action first hand. During his pursuit of a plump, tasty prey, one orca was seen using his powerful tail to launch a seal high up into the air - presumably to make shorter work of securing his snack.
"[W]e were fortunate yesterday to video a family of Killer Whales known as the T69s," Eagle Wing Whale Watching Tours wrote on Facebook. "T69c is the large male orca that caught and killed a Pacific harbour [s]eal. I have been doing this for 18 years and have only had the pleasure of seeing this magnificent 'hunt' of a marine mammal being thrown in the air about 4 times. This is not only the best of the 4 I have experienced but the only one we have captured on film"
