In 1962, Marineland robbed the very first orca from her freedom. Two days after being imprisoned in her new "home" of a concrete tank, she smashed her rostrum straight in to the tank's wall and died.
The first captive orca lasted two days in captivity. Shouldn't this have been a clear sign that they are not amenable to a life in tanks? Now, over 50 years later, at least 162 orcas have died in captivity, not including 30 miscarried or still-born calves.
How can we steal these beautiful animals' freedom?
