A new movement called Open The Barns is taking aim at laws designed to increase secrecy around abusive farming practices.
The campaign was launched by the ASPCA in response to a number of ag-gag bills that have been introduced across the country. Ostensibly designed to protect farmers, these bills prevent people who witness animal abuse from coming forward and reporting it.
Without protection for whistleblowers, disturbing practices inside factory farming corporations will never come to light - not just animal welfare issues, but also labor violations, environmental damage and even food safety issues.
To show public support for Open The Barns, the ASPCA is asking supporters to sign a petition and use the hashtag #OpenTheBarns on social media.
The ASPCA has also released a series of images that supporters can share to spread awareness of the campaign. More are shown below.
