Lucky was surrendered to animal control in San Antonio, Texas, when his owner could no longer take care of him. He is reportedly a whopping 20 years old.

"Owner surrender is a death sentence, particularly for older dogs," Nancy Stoorza of the Houston-based 4 Paws Farm told The Dodo.

4 Paws Farm rallied desperately to save the elderly dog from a certain death, from 200 miles away.

"We were making no headway getting through to the shelter," Stoorza said, so 4 Paws Farm contacted two friends in San Antonio. "They stepped up immediately," she said. Dog lovers rallied together to bring this sweet dog from the brink of death. "We are fortunate to have willing friends."

Happily, Lucky was rescued from what would have been a certain fate. One of the friends of 4 Paws adopted Lucky. Now she has the home she deserves.
