Man Was Rich Until He Saved Thousands Of Dogs From Slaughter

When his dog went missing, Wang Yan searched everywhere - even the slaughterhouse in his town in China.

"I went looking everywhere, but all to no avail," Yan remembers, according to The Shanghaiist. "Finally someone let me go into the slaughterhouse to try my luck there."

Even though he never found his dog, Yan found his true calling. The pain and suffering he witnessed at the dog slaughterhouse back in 2012 was enough to change the whole course of the 29-year-old's life.

Because Yan at the time had a net worth of several million yuan (a million yuan is equivalent to about $156,634), the most obvious thing to do to help those dogs he'd seen was to simply buy the slaughterhouse.

Then Yan used his fortune to establish a massive shelter for otherwise unwanted dogs. Since establishing the shelter, Yan's saved over 2,000 lives.

Needless to say, Yan isn't exactly as wealthy as he once was. He's even gone into debt devoting his live to saving dogs.

We'd rather not think what would have happened without his help.
