The rescue occurred on Saturday in Baton Rouge, where heavy rains across the state have caused widespread flooding.

David Phung was with a group of men traveling by boat when they encountered a woman trapped inside a vehicle washed away by the deluge. Unable to break the window to free her, and with seconds to spare, Phung jumped into the water to pull her to safety from the sinking car.

That's when they learned she was not alone: "Get my dog!" she pleaded.

As another man begins to tell the woman her dog has been lost, Phung does the unthinkable - he dives back to the now-submerged car and resurfaces clutching her cherished pet.

As news station WAFB reports, all three then swam to safety, all thanks to Phung's quick thinking and commitment to getting everyone out alive.

He is truly a hero.
