Man And His Dog Bike Across The Country Together To Break A World Record
And they're stopping at local shelters along the way.
When Mike Minnick decided he wanted to break the world record for distance traveled on an electric bike, he knew he couldn't do it alone.
And so he decided to take his dog, Bixby, along with him.
Bixby is a 6-year-old rescue dog and Minnick's best friend. She rides in a sidecar attached to Minnick's bike, and seems to be enjoying the journey just as much as he is.
The pair has had quite the adventure so far, and has seen some pretty cool places ...
... met some wonderful people ...
... and done a bunch of fun activities in between, too.
The current documented world record for most miles ridden on an electric bike is 5,000, though someone claims they've gone 10,000. So far Minnick and Bixby have pedaled around 10,000 miles through 31 different states, and plan to go 20,000.
Along their journey, the pair has been stopping at local animal shelters to promote the importance of pet adoption, the cause that brought the two of them together in the first place. Minnick adopted Bixby from a shelter in Austin, Texas, when he was a puppy, and they've been inseparable ever since.
Bixby loves traveling with her dad, and also loves meeting all of the shelter dogs along the way who still needs home.
Minnick and Bixby are on a quest to break a world record - but more importantly, they're seeing the world together, and that's their favorite part of their whole journey.
