"I lost three of my best buddies, best friends in the whole world," a brokenhearted Brian Colbree said Wednesday. "Got two left."

Colbree and his family were driving home from a family vacation when tragedy struck on a Utah highway: A car plowed into their family's van, killing Colbree's son, Keegan, and one of the family's dogs, KUTV reported. Colbree's wife, DeeAnn, was taken to a hospital where she later died. The other driver was also killed.

Colbree, his 13-year-old daughter, Katie, and their dog Grizzly Bear survived. On Wednesday, a visibly shattered Colbree spoke to reporters, cradling Grizzly Bear on his lap.

Surprisingly enough, Grizzly Bear might have been as heartbroken as Colbree: Studies suggest dogs can feel grief just like we do.

Grizzly Bear will certainly feel the pain of losing three family members, but he will no doubt also offer the kind of caring and support that only a pet can give.

Neighbors have already rallied around the family, leaving a simple display of paper hearts in their yard with prayers and messages.
