A lovely "mad bird lady," as she calls herself, brought us a feisty Egyptian goose with some fishing line deeply stuck around its legs. Constriction injuries like this can be very bad; if the circulation and the blood supply stop in the limb, the tissues can become necrotic, or dead, and can literally fall off! We removed the line, cleaned the wound and monitored the patient for a few days. This goose was lucky, as its leg went back to normal after a week! Simon released it on the lady's farm, where it was happy to back with all the other birds and on a familiar pond!
