Exhausted Koala Desperate For A Drink Knows Just Who To Ask

A group of friends were out biking in the Adelaide region of South Australia when an unusual pedestrian came into their path - a tired, overheated koala wandering along the road.

The koala was clearly thirsty, and the group was eager to give her a drink ... but before they could offer she was already asking, by climbing up a cyclist's bicycle tires.

The koala was so tired and SO eager for a drink that she just helped herself, and the group of friends happily obliged.

Fellow cyclist Nick Lothian was riding by when he saw the unusual scene, and quickly snapped some photos of the Good Samaritans helping the thirsty koala. Fires recently ravaged the hills of Adelaide, burning nearly 30,000 acres of bushland. Between that and the extreme heat of the summer, many koalas have been emerging, asking people for water and a little compassion. The group stayed with the lost koala until Fauna Rescue arrived to take her to safety. She spent the night at Adelaide animal hospital, where she got a cool place to sleep and PLENTY to drink. The koala was determined to be a year old and isn't injured in any way, and will be released back into the wild sometime Wednesday.
