Kenyan Policeman Nabbed With Elephant Tusks
Kenyan officials have arrested a local police constable and charged him with the possession of a cache of ivory tusks worth approximately $23,000, the Kenya Star reports.
Trans Mara West OCPD Alfred Muthua says the officer was arrested together with his accomplice along the Lolgorian-Angata Barikoi road. The two have been released on a 500,000 shillings [$5767 USD] bond each awaiting the mentioning of their case on 9th December.
The news comes just days after a report released by CITES announced that poaching may wipe out a full 20 percent of the African elephant population in the next decade.
