Apparently, the people of Vermont really enjoy a good dog and pony show -- but not the overproduced, overrated kind that nobody actually wants to sit through. The state's first "Everything Equine and Canine" replaced Vermont's annual horse show with an animal competition that actually featured horses and dogs. Visitors say the canine addition only added to the show's entertainment value.
"We took a look at what we could do new and differently," Tom Oddy, the show's organizer, told the Burlington Free Press. "Our committee said, 'Gee, every horse barn has a barn dog.' In Vermont, dogs are big and there's a symbiotic relationship between dogs and horses, and we just went from there. It's really taken off."
The show, which brought together all sorts of animal lovers from across the state, will be reprised again next year.
