People Are Freaking Out Over This Crow Who Looks Like A Gorilla
"Thanks for the shock" 😂
When Twitter user @keita_simpson first posted a video of a crow on Thursday, they were just as shocked and confused as the rest of the internet.
“Thanks for the shock ... Bad for the heart,” @keita_simpson wrote on Twitter.
Why is everyone freaking out over a simple video of a crow? Because, for some reason, this crow looks exactly like a gorilla.
That’s right, a gorilla. In the video, the unusually large-looking crow appears to be standing on his wings, tricking our eyes into thinking he has four long gorilla arms. His actual legs are nowhere to be seen, and his head also looks very large and gorilla-like for a crow. He cocks his head at the camera as if to say, “Yeah, I’m awesome-looking. What about it?”
As everyone on Twitter collectively freaked out and tried to figure out what exactly was going on, one expert graciously stepped in with an answer.
“First, this is a large-billed crow, which is why the face is looking a little out of proportion,” Kaeli Swift, a crow expert and author of the blog Corvid Research, wrote on Twitter. “Second, this bird is not missing its legs and propping itself up with its wings, that would be physically impossible. What it’s actually doing is sunning itself. When birds sun they drop their wings and cock their tails. At the right angle that could obscure the legs and tail making it look like they’re missing.”
Mystery solved! The gorilla crow is actually just a completely normal crow who decided to play a trick on the internet. Well-played, crow. The exact moment that the Twitter user happened to capture could also explain why the crow looks so unusual to us.
“Usually the mouth is open and the body is closer to the ground, making the behavior more obvious, but perhaps the videographer caught it in a moment of transition,” Swift wrote.
Regardless, gorilla crows are not actually thing, and this is just a really, really cool coincidence that someone happened to see.
