Family Shocked To Find A Python Hanging Out In Their Cat Tree

Definitely not a cat 😱🐍

When a family in Australia noticed their cat acting weird, they were immediately concerned. The poor cat seemed hesitant to go anywhere near the cat tree that was usually so fun, so the family went over to take a closer look — and realized there was someone unexpected curled up inside the cat tree:

A rather large carpet python.

“It definitely gave them a surprise,” Stuart McKenzie, of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, told The Dodo.

As soon as the family discovered why their cat was so spooked, they called up McKenzie and he drove out to help safely remove the snake from his cozy hiding place.

“I believe the snake got in the house through an open door or window,” McKenzie said. “It was during the heavy rain and hail storms so I think he was just seeking shelter.”

Luckily, before McKenzie had even arrived, the cat and snake had no interest in meeting each other and kept a respectful distance. The snake was a very well-behaved houseguest overall — all he really wanted was to take a nice long nap away from the storm.

Once McKenzie arrived, he was able to get the snake out of the cat tree easily, but of course, the snake was probably a little annoyed at having to give the tree back to the family cat.

“It was pretty easy to get the snake out of there,” McKenzie said. “It was a nice, warm, cozy spot for the snake, though.”
