Two brothers who shot and killed a bottlenose dolphin in February just got off with a mere year of probation, some fines and a measly 50 hours of community service. They will serve no time for killing an innocent animal with an arrow.

Warning: Disturbing content below

Cory and Cade Moseley, who killed the dolphin for fun, originally faced up to a year in federal prison and a $20,000 fine for "taking" the dolphin from Cow Bayou in Jasper County, Texas.

The act that took an innocent animal's life is considered a misdemeanor. This means that the ruling is totally legally legit.

In the eyes of federal law, killing a defenseless dolphin with a bow and arrow is the same as transporting water hyacinths .

But some people are fighting for the rights of certain animals in court. Learn about the Nonhuman Rights Project and Animal Legal Defense Fund, organizations fighting the good fight for animals in the eyes of the law.
