Humpback Whales Put On A Show In Incredible New Drone Video

It's springtime and Humpback whales are out in full force in the warm, crystal waters along the North Shore of Oahu -- and they're clearly having a good time.

Earlier this week, we shared a remarkable photo taken of a pair of whales surfing along the popular Banzai Pipeline, much to the amazement of beachgoers. But now new video captured by a whale-watching drone has emerged from around the same time, offering yet an even more impressive view of the animals and their companions from high overhead.

This incredible footage, captured over the course of three days by photographer Eric Sterman, shows humpbacks leaping from the water and slapping their tails beneath the warm Hawaiian sun. While no one knows for certain what inspires such behavior, it's hard not to suspect that it's as joyful for the whales as it is for us to see them.

"Using my Dronefly and Gopro Hero 3+, I was able to catch these beautiful whales enjoying the ocean over 3 separate days on the North Shore of Oahu, my favorite being the pod of whales swimming through the wave lineup at Pipeline," writes Sterman on his YouTube page.

"While I filmed from land, the whales ranged anywhere from a mile out at sea to close to the shore. A truly awesome experience."
