Turns out, a murder-solving parrot in India was just one example of animals helping police stop crime. Last week, a group of astute horses has led police officers to find a hidden stash of cannabis in northern England. According to the Daily Mirror, several bags of cannabis leaves were discovered near a pasture pond after wandering horses displayed a particular interest in the area.
"They were sniffing about, so their owners wondered what they were looking at," one local resident said. "It was clear the horses were attracted to the area -- it was probably the smell of the cannabis.... My husband was out walking the dog down there when the police arrived and he said the officers were delighted to make the find."
Although the five bags that the horses found were not sellable, officers believe the wastage could indicate a larger grow operation nearby. Police have not yet made any arrests in the case, but they are on the lookout for information following the horses' discovery. The investigating horses did not ingest the cannabis leaves and were later returned to their guardians.
