Heart-Stopping Hippo Encounter Caught On Film

When a group of tourists ventured across Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe, they probably weren't expecting their boat to be aggressively pursued by a hippopotamus. Prepare for your heart to stop around 0:15.

Hippos are often viewed as lumbering, slow-moving herbivores, but they're actually incredibly fast, both on land and in water. They can also be incredibly dangerous, especially when defending their territory. You might be not be friendly either if someone was cruising around your home.

Michael Varndell, a director of the boat's tour group, told Daily Mail Australia that this is not the first time that a hippo chase has interrupted one of their tours. "To be fair, one had a baby," he said. "Normally hippos would not be aggressive unless they have babies or unless they feel threatened."
