A few years back, after her 12-year-old toy poodle Muffin was diagnosed with cataracts, owner Silvie Bordeaux was heartbroken to watch her once energetic dog be robbed of his sight and lose his playful spirit.
"I was devastated, since he kept bumping into walls and falling down the stairs. He became very depressed and was afraid to move around," writes Silvie. "I could not let him out of my sight and carried him around everywhere."
When she failed to find any resources which might help Muffin cope with the vision loss, Silvie took matters into her own hands -- creating a special piece of headgear, anchored by a velcro body harness, to protect her pet from painful bumps. And soon enough, Muffin was back on his feet, exploring the world around him.
