‘Grease’ Star’s New Dog Helps Her Heal After A Heartbreaking Loss
He was the one that she wanted - and she couldn't have come at a better time for him. Then again, he couldn't have come at a better time for her as well.
Stockard Channing, best known for portraying Rizzo in the 1978 film version of "Grease," was heartbroken after having to put down her older dog, a pit bull mix named Fanula, according to a Facebook post from the Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue, based in the Hamptons, New York.
Meanwhile in North Carolina, a dog on the kill list of a local shelter was running out of time. His name was Kony and all he needed was a home to save him from euthanization. Shelter workers loved him and fought hard to save him, urging the shelter's Facebook followers to rescue him from his fate.
As luck would have it, Channing and Kony's paths crossed. On the same day the 72-year-old actress was referred to Gimme Shelter, where she was shown Kony's photo, and she immediately knew she wanted to bring him home.
He arrived in New York on Saturday and has since been renamed by his new mom - he now goes by Benny. It sounds like he's adjusting to life in his new home just fine.
Talk about a happy ending - and one more very good reason to love Rizzo.
