Three pit bull puppies who were headed for a tragic life of dogfighting were rescued this week, thanks in part to some terrible decision-making by their cruel owners.

A video posted to Facebook by the pups' owners appeared to show the little dogs being trained to fight each other in a home in Yazoo City, Mississippi, local outlet WJTV reports.

Clips of the video show a group of men encircling the puppies, grabbing them by the scruffs of their necks and pushing them towards each other, encouraging them to paw at each others' faces. Several concerned animal lovers flagged the video, reporting it to authorities.

"It's absolutely clear they were training these dogs to fight. They weren't just messing around with these dogs and if they were that's still animal cruelty," animal rights activist Doll Stanley told WJTV.

The home was raided and the puppies were taken into the custody of Yazoo City Animal Control. Animal control officers told The Dodo that the puppies had been transferred to a nearby shelter, but we've been unable to confirm with local shelters. We will update the post as soon as we know their whereabouts.

Videos like this one are sad proof that no breed is born aggressive and violent - these are learned behaviors. Despite their terrible experiences, dogs who are rescued from a life of fighting are often unbelievably loving.
