Ellen Makes Big Announcement About New Kid In Her Life

Tell your friends there's a new kid on the block.

"Portia and I got a puppy, and his name is Kid," Ellen DeGeneres told her audience at a taping of her show on Thursday. "So now, we have a Kid!"

The audience immediately erupted in applause and "awws" as a photo of the dog appeared on the giant screen behind her.

"He's 9 weeks old and as cute as can be, but I'll tell you what's not cute," DeGeneres continued. "To wake up at 11 and 1 and 3 and 5. And then 5 is when he's up-up."

Of course, Kid is just the newest addition to an already bustling family. DeGeneres and her wife have been adopting rescue dogs and cats for years.

Below is a photo of Ellen, Portia and their other two dogs, Augie and Wolf, who are a few years older than Kid.

Ellen says the inspiration for Kid's name came from gossip magazine rumors that the couple was having a baby. DeGeneres told her audience, "Now I can say we have a kid."

It probably doesn't surprise anybody that the comedian would use the act of naming her dog as an opportunity for humor. But, having a fresh ball of fur and energy in the house has reminded DeGeneres of the challenges of raising a human kid.

"It makes me appreciate what it's like to be a mother, because I'm trying to hold a puppy while I'm trying to make coffee, and I can't do anything," she said.

Here's a photo posted earlier today of Ellen, Augie and a shirt with Augie's face on it.

If it's any indication of how DeGeneres and de Rossi will treat their newest family member, he's one lucky Kid.
