One lucky hang glider soaring over Wyo. got the perfect view of an enormous herd of elk.

Elk travel in impressively large groups - Yellowstone elk have been observed in herds of over 200,000 individuals.

Yellowstone elk take the longest migration in the country, ending up in Jackson, Wyoming for the winter each year.

While elk are listed as "Least Concern" by the IUCN Red List, Yellowstone populations have faced troubles in recent years. Once abundant in the area, elk are facing threats from human impacts on their ecosystem, including climate change, reduced food sources, and hunting have brought on declines.
