Elephant Charges At Arnold Schwarzenegger — And His Reaction Is Perfect
On screen, Arnold Schwarzenegger has faced down more than his fair share of formidable foes - but chances are, in real life, he never met a challenger quite as intimidating as this one.
While on safari in South Africa recently, Schwarzenegger had a very unforgettable run-in with one of the region's most iconic animals - a massive bull elephant who, as it turns out, was none too pleased to see him and his cohort. In a clip of the incident shared on YouTube, what starts out as a mesmerizing close encounter quickly turns into a something like a scene from an action film.
Scary? Sure. But Schwarzenegger's reaction afterward couldn't be more perfect.
Rather than use the viral-bound video as a means of promoting himself - or casting elephants as creatures to fear - Schwarzenegger takes the opportunity to spread an important message about saving them.
"I couldn't have written this safari encounter better if it was a movie. I'm absolutely in awe of these beautiful, strong animals, even though some of us had to change our pants after this," he wrote online. "We need to stop killing them - take a photo, not a shot. Would you rather be able to experience these creatures or a hunk of ivory? I thought so."
This isn't the first time Schwarzenegger has lent his visibility as a pop culture icon to turn the public's attention toward the plight of African wildlife.
Last year, Schwarzenegger was featured in a video from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), highlighting the grim statistic that 96 elephants are killed each day for their ivory tusks.
In fitting form, he got that message across with the help of explosives.
