Sometimes it's best to test the waters before jumping in head-first. Faa Mai, a female elephant at the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, tried to do this one day at a pond in the sanctuary.

She dipped her trunk to test the water ...

Carefully ... carefully ...

Not too far now... oops.

Most of the elephants at Elephant Nature Park were rescued from life in trekking camps, where they would give tourists rides, often developing back and foot conditions.
