It's a heartwarming tale of a chicken who wanted a chick and a duck who narrowly escaped a cruel fate.
The chicken lived freely on a farm in France, and though she seemed to have it all, she was a bit of an outcast among her flock. And what she really wanted was a child.
She spent months nurturing rotten eggs in hopes of a baby chick. She even nurtured a chestnut when she mistook it for an egg.
Things looked hopeless for her.
Across town, this little duckling was fleeing from a factory farm. Somehow he managed to escape life there, where he would have been raised to become a piece of foie gras: a painful life for a little duckling. In most foie gras production, ducks are force-fed food so that their liver becomes large and diseased.
A woman who lives on the farm also works at that factory where this little duckling escaped. She found this particular duckling after he had somehow fled to the parking lot.
While many of the woman's co-workers have become numb to the ducklings' suffering, this one human still has a heart for these poor creatures.
