An Alaska man who sustained serious injuries in a snowmachine accident is alive and recovering, thanks to his dog. Otis Orth was out on a Saturday snowmachine ride with his Irish Setter, Amber, when he crashed the machine and was left on the ground, unable to move. Amber stayed with Orth overnight and kept him warm throughout the next day, leaving his side only when she heard another snowmachine passing by.
The dog encountered two other men and barked at them until they followed her to where Orth lay, about 400 yards away. They found the man alert and conscious but still incapacitated. After calling for help, Orth was taken by air ambulance to an Anchorage hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries. Amber is reportedly doing well and staying with one of Orth's friends while the man recovers.
